What is the Conversions API?

Let’s start from the beginning. The Conversions API (CAPI) is a direct pipeline between your platform (in this case, SamCart) and an ad network. It enables you to send critical data—such as conversion (sales) and attribution information—directly to the ad platform.

For example, when a customer makes a purchase on SamCart, the CAPI allows you to inform Facebook that this specific customer (name, location, email, phone number, and the Facebook Click id) made a purchase. This data includes which ad, ad set, and campaign drove the conversion.

Why Connect SamCart to the Conversions API?

Ultimately, the purpose of connecting to CAPI is to increase profit by improving targeting and reducing ad budget waste.

Beyond the hype, there are legitimate reasons why connecting your shop to the Conversions API (CAPI) is essential. Here are the 3 most important reasons for Samcart:

1. Train Facebook’s Algorithm with Rich Data

Connecting SamCart to the CAPI provides platforms like Meta or Google with detailed first-party customer data. This data enables the ad platform’s algorithms to better understand who your ideal buyers are, helping them optimize ad delivery.
Unlike the Facebook Pixel, which is limited in the type of data it collects, the CAPI captures richer, more precise data (e.g., names, addresses, and emails) that you’re legally authorized to use for marketing. This feedback loop significantly enhances your audience targeting and retargeting capabilities, resulting in better-performing campaigns (improved ROAS).

2. Achieve Accurate Attribution

In addition to customer data, the CAPI also transmits ad and campaign IDs associated with the sale. This ensures you can track exactly which ads are generating revenue, saving you from wasting money on underperforming campaigns.

While the traditional Meta Pixel handles attribution, it often falls short, misattributing sales from unrelated channels like organic traffic, email campaigns, or other ad networks, like Google Ads. The Conversions API solves this problem by providing precise attribution data, making it an indispensable tool for performance-driven marketers.

3. Fewer Tracking Issues

Traditional tracking methods, like the Meta Pixel, can be hindered by ad blockers, browser privacy settings, and cookie restrictions, leading to lost or inaccurate data. The Conversions API bypasses these issues by sending data directly from SamCart to the ad network, ensuring more reliable tracking even when users block cookies or use privacy tools.

Ways to Connect SamCart to the Conversions API

Time for solutions. Here are five methods to connect SamCart to the Conversions API, depending on your technical expertise, budget, and business needs.

Connect it for me!

Method 1 – Server to Server

Level: Advanced – requires coding to build and maintain scripts or serverless functions.
Cost: High initial costs for server setup and development, plus maintenance costs.
Best for: Businesses with very large sales volumes and teams with API developers.

Description: This method uses SamCart’s webhooks to send event data to your own server, where it is processed (e.g., validated or transformed) and then forwarded to Facebook’s Conversions API. This approach gives you full control over the data pipeline and allows for extensive customization. However, it requires a server and technical expertise to manage the integration and infrastructure. Not for non-experts.

My Thoughts: This option only makes sense if you have in-house servers and a development staff with API experience. Otherwise, it’s expensive and overkill.

Method 2 – Manual Integration APIs

Level: Advanced – requires a developer to build and maintain scripts or serverless functions.
Cost: Moderate – no infrastructure costs, but development and cloud-function costs (e.g., AWS Lambda) apply.
Best for: Businesses without permanent servers but with in-house development teams.

Description:
For businesses without a server, a manual integration can directly bridge SamCart and Facebook’s Conversions API. Developers can write scripts or use serverless solutions (like AWS Lambda or Google Cloud Functions) to capture event data from SamCart and send it directly to Meta. This method avoids the need for a permanent server but still requires significant technical expertise to build and maintain.

My Thoughts:
Expensive to develop, high maintenance costs, and very time consuming.
Only use this method if you have a team of developers behind you; otherwise, you don’t want to deal with its complexity.

Method 3 – SamCart Integration Engine

Level: Moderate – requires manual configuration and SamCart apps.
Cost: Free if you handle the configuration yourself.
Best for: Users with basic knowledge of scripts and Facebook Business settings.

Description:
SamCart includes the Integration Engine in all plans. You install the Meta integration from the App Marketplace, generate a token in Facebook, and modify/install a script that sends data via a POST request to your Meta Pixel. If you’re confident, follow these instructions to connect SamCart to the API.

Thoughts:
This method is less complex than full manual integration, but still involves several configuration steps. If the instructions aren’t overwhelming, it can be a good fit. However, incorrect setup may lead to complications.
